Eyelash extensions have been around for a hot minute. But as of late, I personally have noticed lash extensions taking Las Vegas by storm. Women in all sorts of industries across Vegas are batting their luscious lashes everywhere they go. Naturally, I had to see what all the hype was about.
It’s Las Vegas, so there are a million and one places that do a lot of the same thing. With the lash extension trend being on the up and up, more than a few lash salons have popped up over the past year or two.
So how does one go about choosing a lash salon? Do your research! Just because a lash place has “great deals” doesn’t mean they specialize in healthy lash extensions. These are your eyes! Make sure they are in good hands. Yelp, Google+ and Facebook are all great resources to look at people’s experiences. Of course, you have to take some reviews with a grain of salt, but some common sense will hold you in good stead.
Lucky for me, a dear friend opened up a brand new lash spot here in Las Vegas and I was super stoked to give her some local business as well as get all glammed up.
The spot? Glam Parlor – quickly becoming Vegas’ hottest one-stop-shop for all things beauty and glam. Not only does the salon specialize in lash extensions, but they also offer microblading, facial waxing, and facials. (Can I get an “amen” to that?!)
Upon walking into Glam Parlor, it was like entering into an alternate glam universe, complete with gorgeous white marble floors, sparkling chandeliers and even a cotton candy machine (yes there was actual cotton candy and I was totally here for it). With a bright, pink neon sign that says “wake up glam”, how could you not feel like a princess in this amazing salon?
Since I was new to the lash extension world, I opted in for a classic full set of lashes rather than going full volume on my first go-around (granted, I would later go all out for the volume because who doesn’t love having a voluminous set of lashes when looking in the mirror first thing in the morning). I was happily greeted by Amanda, who escorted me to one of the lash rooms. Behind the ceiling-high silver, sparkly curtain, she revealed a super comfy, reclining chair, complete with a cozy white blanket.
After getting comfy in the recliner, Amanda placed gel eye pads under my bottom lashes, made sure I was comfortable with my eyes closed, and began her lash artistry.
(Cue lash nap…)
About an hour and a half later, I woke from a light slumber by way of a calm, cooling mist (the misting at the end of a lash appointment is low-key my fave part). After removing the eye pads, Amanda handed me a mirror and I was completely in awe! Hello longer, darker lashes! (I love my natural lashes, don’t get me wrong, but having a more doe-eyed, glam look was certainly welcome)
For the next week or two, I couldn’t stop looking at my lovely lashes. People kept complimenting me on how beautiful they were and, I mean, who doesn’t love getting compliments?
Overall, my experience getting lashes was nothing short of amazing, and I have continually come in for my fills every 2-3 weeks. Having luscious lashes is certainly worth the upkeep! I almost rarely have to wear eye makeup and that, in of itself, is worth the time saved.
What is a microblading artist, and Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. Microblading will leave you with beautiful, sculpted, natural-looking brows, eliminating the need to pencil in what you lack.
This technique has quickly risen to the top of the brow trends in Las Vegas. People in all trades are loving the natural look that Microblading offers. The results make it very hard to tell the difference between your existing hair and the hair-like strokes that have been implanted. The fact that Microblading results last up to 3 years and you aren’t worried about your brows melting off after a workout or swim, this treatment has gotten our attention!
Well, you’ve seen all the posts on your social media feed and are interested in getting it done, now you need to figure out how to choose an artist. Where do you start?
We [Glam Parlor] asked our lead Microblading Artist, Jillian, to shed some light on the subject.
Do’s and Don’ts
1. Do some research.
This is your face after all! The good thing is that you have the power to choose who you are going to trust to do this very detailed treatment. When Microblading got popular, we saw a lot of 3 day “intensive” Microblading courses pop up in town. Aspiring artists will take these overcrowded classes and start taking Microblading clients immediately after without supervision. This is VERY illegal and unsafe for the unknowing clients. By law, you are required to apprentice under a licensed artist for six months. Not only will the apprentice be closely supervised, but they need to practice on a certain number of models throughout their apprenticeship in order to learn proper technique and safety/sanitation protocol. Our lead Microblading artist at Glam Parlor has been in the business of brow design for over 8 years! Needless to say, you’re in good hands.
2. Do some Instagram stalking! Looking at before and after photos will give you some insight into their style. Every artist is unique, as the work is done by hand. Make sure that their results resonate with you. The level of experience will also be obvious once you see their work.
3. Do get a microblading consultation. Your artist will answer any questions that you have about the treatment before you commit. They will also help you to determine a shape and color that will compliment your bone structure and facial features best.
4. Don’t make the mistake of settling on a Microblading artist based on their price. Again, this is your face! You will be looking at their work for the next 3 years so you don’t want to be frugal in this case.
5. Don’t go to the microblading artist’s residence for the service. We’ve heard horror stories about the results that an inexperienced artist will produce from an unlicensed “studio”. This is illegal and very unsafe. A licensed Microblading room has been inspected by the Health Department and determined up to protocol for safety and sanitation. PLEASE turn around and go home if your GPS is taking you to a house!
6. Don’t forget to ask to see the artist’s healed microblading results. The immediate results may look great in many artist’s before and afters, however, an experienced artist will produce beautiful results that last. An inexperienced artist will struggle to identify the proper depth for each stroke which can cause the strokes to blur together if too deep or fade away completely if too shallow.
We hope that sharing these insights will help you to make a good choice when deciding who’s hands the fate of your brows will be in.

Clean Lashes Equal Healthy Lashes! How to care for your Eyelash Extensions!
After you’ve procured the eyelashes of your dreams, it’s time for the aftercare!
As a lash stylist I always remind my clients to wait 24 hours before getting their eyelash extensions wet. This allows enough time for the adhesive to dry properly and avoid premature fallout of the eyelash extensions.
The average eyelash cycle – the time it takes for you natural eyelashes to fall out and reproduce – is between 4 to 6 weeks, with some individuals seeing the turnover as early as 2 weeks.
Not cleansing your lashes is enemy #1 when it comes to retention. So many clients are afraid to cleanse their lashes because they think it might wiggle the extensions loose and cause them to shed prematurely. Beyond helping to improve your lash extension retention, regular cleansing helps to keep your natural lashes and eye area healthy.
Washing your lashes at least every other day removes the dead skin cells, dirt, makeup, and oil that builds up along the lash lines. Remember to avoid using products that contain oil around or on your eye area. These include cleansers, moisturizers, cleansing oils, eye creams, and spray toners. If you are unsure if any of your skin care products are safe to use with your eyelash extensions. Glam Parlor carries a phenomenal skin care line (IMAGE) that you can purchase at your next lash appointment!
Follow these easy steps below to ensure you are cleansing properly!
- Remove all eye-makeup using an oil and glycol-free makeup remover. ***If taking off eyeliner, use a cotton tip dipped in remover and wipe it across your lid, or away from the lid. Never towards the extensions. Don’t use cotton balls as you’ll get into a furry mess, as they will catch on the bases of the extensions.
- Wet your eyes with cool water. Take a small amount of a lash shampoo (provided In your after -care kit) and pump it onto your lash bath brush (provided in to aftercare kit) Apply this to both eyes, one at a time, gently massaging the lashes with the brush. Don’t rub or be harsh, just gentle movements!
- Then gently splash cool water over your closed eyes and rinse Until you have completely removed the cleanser.
- Dab them gently dry. Note: It doesn’t matter if they are a little damp, stuck together with water etc., when you brush them they will re-separate.
- Once they have air dried, Use your lash wand to very gently twirl through them and fan them out! Now you are selfie ready!
Other Aftercare tips for eyelash extensions:
- Wear a headband when you work out so that sweat does not get into your eyes and eyelash extensions when working out.
- Don’t sleep on your face or lashes. Either sleep on your back, on your side with your arm positioned to block your lashes from hitting the pillow or purchase one of our special dome sleep masks to really protect those lashes during your beauty sleep.
- Avoid steam rooms and saunas if possible.
- DO NOT USE waterproof mascara on your lashes, even your bottom ones! Believe it or not wearing waterproof mascara on your bottom lashes can damage your lash extensions. When you close your eyes, particles of the mascara will adhere to your extensions causing damage and retention issues.
- Avoid any king of mascara on , our eyelash extensions.
- Do not use Oil based makeup removers.
- Do not rub your eyes or tug and pull at your eyelash extensions.
- Brush your eyelash extensions several times a day. This will prevent them from moving out of place or becoming tangled. Kind of like your hair 🙂
- Do no try to remove eyelash extensions on your own. If you are ready for a removal go to a professional as removing them on your own may cause damage to your natural lashes.

With all of the wear and tear we tend to put our lashes through, it’s super important to remember to keep those extensions healthy! Your lashes deserve a little TLC. Prep those beauties to look and feel their best before summer kicks in with these 3 tips:
Proper Cleansing: Cleansing your lashes really helps to ensure better overall lash retention with your eyelash extensions. Dirty lashes can weigh heavy on your lash extensions, thus increasing the likelihood of your eyelash extensions falling off at a faster pace. SO, if you tend to wear eye makeup along with your lash extensions, keep ‘em clean!
- Cleanse your eyelash extensions with a lash bath solution once a day.
- Always remove all makeup before bed using an oil free makeup remover
Here at Glam Parlor, we provide each of our lash clients with a lash care after kit to keep those beauties fresh and clean.
Daily Brushing: Usually, it is always in good taste to brush your lash extensions once or twice a day. This helps to keep each of the eyelash extensions in their proper place. Throughout the day, your lash extensions can get a bit out of order even when you’re not thinking about it. So put those trusty eyelash wands to use! (Tip: I usually keep an eyelash wand in my car and one in my bathroom so I never forget to brush them. Whether I’m out and about or hanging at home, I always remember).
Avoid Oil-Based Products: You’ve heard the saying “oil and water don’t mix” right? Well, the same goes for oils and lash extension adhesives; they truly do not mix. Lash adhesives break down when exposed to any oils or oil-based products, so if you use face moisturizers with oil in them or liquid foundation that has some sort of oil base in it, STEER CLEAR! These products will affect your lash extension retention, and you’ll be back in the lash chair before you know it (which, to be honest, isn’t entirely a bad thing when it comes to getting to take a lash nap, but who wants to come in every other day for extensions?! Certainly not me)
BONUS TIP: For an extra boost to not only condition your lashes, but to promote healthy lash growth, invest in a bottle of Revitalash. I promise you, this isn’t paid advertising. I personally swear by this bottle of wonder for my lashes. It is one of the few lash conditioners out there with the least amount of ingredients that does the job and does it well. And as a double-DOUBLE bonus, you can use Revitalash with your extensions!
For most women, having a pair of perfectly shaped eyebrows presents a daily challenge that adds several minutes to their daily routine. Whether you like your eyebrows straight & bold, arched & feathered, or simply patterned after your favorite personality’s brow shape, eyebrows are definitely one of the most important facial features that needs serious attention.
Traditionally, the most economical way to address a not-so-perfect pair of eyebrows is by using an eyebrow pencil. Unfortunately, the amount of time required each month doesn’t figure into the calculation of cost efficiency. Factoring in the time spent, frustratingly trying to achieve the perfect look, plus the cost of cosmetic pencils, the dollars really begin to add up. Ask yourself, what is an hour of my time worth? Now you can see the appeal of a more permanent solution.
If you’re one of those who feel like shaping one’s eyebrows is occupying too much of one’s time and you’re looking for a way to have a near permanent solution, you can try microblading. Microblading can be your most natural option to attain the eyebrows of your dream while enjoying your new eyebrow shape on its semi-permanent state.
What is microblading?
Microblading is an advanced technique that creates semi-permanent hairlike strokes in order to fill in thinning or sparse brows. The result is having full brows that look very natural and one that would last for years. It’s also perfect for anyone who only wants to add a slight arch and gain a natural, undetectable fringe after the process. In general, microblading is the best solution to those who are interested in covering the gaps, defining, filling-in over plucked eyebrows, and getting a full reconstruction.
How is it done?
Microblading is a very meticulous process which requires around two hours of work. The first hour is spent by drawing the shape in using a removable pencil. It is the longest part of the process and absolutely the most important step. During this step, the artist collaborates with the client to achieve the best customized shape for their facial features and desired look.
Clients are advised to be wary of places which claim that the procedure can be completed in just one hour. Remember that it’s a semi-permanent and it will be done on your face. Therefore, this procedure should not be rushed, hence, it’s impossible to wrap things up in just one hour. Needless to say, it should not be attempted by untrained staff, and your artist should have numerous before & after photos as part of their portfolio.
Does it hurt?
Most microblading artists give their clients the chance to choose between getting a dry tattoo or using a numbing agent prior to the procedure.
A numbing agent is a topical cream that makes the skin more vulnerable and more buttery. While it makes the work more difficult for an artist to perform, it can successfully make the experience more bearable and comfortable for the client. The pain is reduced considerably after an application.
How much money is involved in the procedure?
Microblading is a semi-permanent solution and does not require great maintenance. Just a brief touch-up once a year is all you need to keep your eyebrows in their tip-top shape. Having said that, undergoing the process may save you a lot of money in buying all those pencils, gels and everything else just to have the perfect brows.
Remember that microblading is a major investment. The whole process can cost anywhere between $350 to $1,600. On average, it costs around $400.
The procedure is inclusive of at least 2 visits. The price includes the initial consultation, first session, and one touch up afterwards which are done at one-month increments. Beware of salons that put a price on the initial visit and then a separate price for the touch up or follow up visit.
Does it work well with any skin type?
Most microblading artists agree that people with very oily skin types are at risk of rejecting the pigment that is used in the process. This is because an oily skin is the most difficult type of skin to work with. Usually, this skin type is prone to pigment hydration wherein the pigment fans into each other and the strokes seem to blend. The result is having a brow that looks more like it’s been powder-filled as opposed to looking like distinct strokes.
Likewise, people with a skin type that tends to scar or retain keloids are not good candidates for taking the procedure.
Is there an aftercare routine needed?
The best part about microblading is that it has no down time. This means your new set of brows is immediately ready for a selfie once the process is over. It is, however, recommended that you make a follow-up at least one month later.
Bear in mind that not everyone heals at the same rate. Normally, this will take sometime between 25 and 30 days. After one month from getting the procedure, customers are recommended to have a 40-minute touch-up.
Prepare to add a few more minutes of your time in your daily routine for an aftercare. This includes applying a triple antibiotic cream for a period of 24 hours. It’s also required to use Vaseline for at least one week. Lastly, avoid getting your new brows wet for a period of one week.
When the healing process is over, you will be able to rub your eyebrows. You can even go swimming and not worry about damaging your “beauty investment.” There’s no special care required, only a brief touch-up which you can do once a year.
What if I don’t like the color of my new brows?
During the healing period, it’s normal to see your new brows looking darker than before. This shouldn’t be a reason for you to panic. Simply trust the process and follow carefully the aftercare instructions.
On the first three days following the procedure, you will notice that your eyebrows look darker. On days four and five, expect dried skin to start falling off. Then, on days seven and eight, you can start seeing the result underneath. This is the time when your new brows should appear 50 to 75 percent lighter compared to how they were on day one. Indeed, you will notice how the look has faded significantly.
Is it permanent?
Like what was mentioned earlier, microblading is semi-permanent. It is a form of cosmetic tattooing which is much more superficial to the skin as compared to body art tattooing. Moreover, the inks used in microblading are much more degradable. It can be digested by one’s own immune system which can also push the pigment out. Having said that, it should be understood that the looks resulting from a microblading process tend to fade over time.
Normally, people who have undergone microblading can enjoy the result for one to three years. It varies from one person to another depending on one’s skin type and lifestyle.
Is microblading all worth it?
The answer will depend on what an individual is actually looking for.
Microblading can be your best bet to have the perfect shape of eyebrows you’ve been dreaming about if you like the thought of:
having the perfect brows while you’re working out or when you need to go out
not having to worry about spending too much time on shaping your brows every morning
waking up with the perfect brows for added self-confidence
having your brows looking so good that people would think you spent 2 hours on them when in fact, you spent only 5 minutes or even less
having a worry-free day knowing that you look good just by having a nice pair of eyebrows being able to finally rid yourself from the trouble and pain of shaping, plucking and everything else that you used to do on your eyebrows just to give them a nice shape
not having to do your eyebrows over and over again because you keep on making silly mistakes in every attempt
(if you’re a perfectionist, then this could be very frustrating as well)
What preparations do I need?
It’s important that you do your research prior to getting the procedure. You can ask some friends who have undergone the same and learn from their experience. Find an artist who you think is most qualified and talk it out. You should be able to discuss what you really want and what you are expecting to achieve as a result of the process. Best of all, you should feel comfortable with it and ready enough to proceed.
Once you have done your research and you are sure that microblading is your best option to have the kind of look that you’ve been wanting to have, you can start by making an appointment. If you feel very excited by simply thinking about the process, it means you’re ready for microblading.

What is Microblading?
Also known by a variety of names such as embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes, is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. Microblading will leave you with beautiful sculpted natural looking brows that you’ll never need to pencil in again.
Eyebrow Microblading is performed by manually depositing pigment in the basal layer of the epidermis by a special pen. It does not involve the use of a machine. Unlike permanent makeup brow treatments, Microblading techniques involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that are more natural looking than tattooing, brow pencils or powders. The blade of Microblading pen contains numerous pins that are 3 times thinner than the needles used for tattooing. When performed correctly, the procedure is almost painless. Technicians usually use a numbing solution to limit discomfort.
How do we create the perfect brow shape?
There are basic guiding principles for creating the perfect eyebrow – measurements involving the spacing and the relationship between space, angles of the face, the nose, and the eyes as to where the brows should begin, end and where it should arch. However, there’s a great variance between different faces and how brows suites each – there is no one “perfect brow” for all. We will take some basic measurements of your face, look at symmetry (no one is perfectly symmetrical, not even supermodels) and work out the best way to balance your face. We engage a conversation to understand what you are used to, what your personal makeup style is, and your color preferences. Sometimes some subtle changes are made to shape and color, if we think this could achieve a better result. We will always show you the drown shape and color, before we begin the procedure, for your approval.
How long does it last?
This is dependent on many factors, such as: * the pigment used – darker pigments ~ very dark brown lasts a lot longer than lighter shades. * The density of pigment ~ a treatment that has been reinforced with a second adjustment appointment, will usually be longer lasting. * Environmental factors such as exposure to UV light. Tanning and not using sun protection will fade the color faster. * Your health and overall individual phycology – some people retain pigment extremely well. Generally, is considered semi-permanent and average results last about 1-2 years.
How long does the procedure takes?
Usually around 2 hours. Often for the first procedure, the longest part of the appointment can be the consultation and drawing on the brow shape – We will always spend time getting them as symmetrical and as close to perfect as possible, with your approval, before Microblading procedure begins. The actual Microblading rarely takes longer than 60 minutes. When you make your appointment, we will discuss the time needed and make sure there is plenty of time for you to ask questions and for us to discuss the look you are after.
